    Foxfire & Freeways: Meet Sunna

    We’ve been a little quiet lately…

and now we can finally share why.

    We got a puppy.

    Her name is Sunna.

We picked her up during our trip to Texas and spent some time just getting to know her—letting her settle in, getting her used to us, and starting the early stages of training.

She’s 8 weeks old now, and already such a big part of our little world.

Sunna is named after the Norse goddess of the sun—a symbol of light, warmth, and guidance. It felt fitting for this next chapter of our journey.

Lil man absolutely adores her. Watching them together already, you can just tell… this is going to be one of those lifelong bonds.

Of course, not everyone has had something positive to say about it.

But at the end of the day, that doesn’t really matter.

What matters is that she’s loved.
    She’s cared for.
And she’s going to grow into one incredibly smart, loyal companion alongside us.

    This life we’re building—it’s ours.

    And now, it includes Sunna.

Until the next mile, keep the fire lit and the road calling.

Foxfire & Freeways: Beltane & Barefoot Days

We’re back on the road again—this time heading toward Iowa for a pit stop at the cousins’ place before making our way home to Ohio.

This past weekend we were in Fort Morgan for the Beltane festival, and honestly… it was a good one.

Lil man and I spent most of the day barefoot, just soaking everything in. It felt grounding in the best way—sun on our skin, feet in the earth, and a chance to slow down and just be for a bit.

Of course, we missed a few spots with sunscreen and ended up with some random sunburns šŸ˜… but that just comes with the territory.

There were some really awesome vendors, a fire show that stood out, and just an overall energy that made the whole weekend feel worth it.

Lil man absolutely loved it—especially getting to hang out with his uncle Henry and Aunt Valeria. Those moments are always the best to watch.

It wasn’t perfect. There were still a few negative people and some stress that tried to creep in…

…but it didn’t take away from what the weekend was.

    A good time.
    Good people.
And a reminder of why we keep doing this.

Now it’s onward to Iowa, then Ohio.

    More miles ahead.

Until the next mile, keep the fire lit and the road calling.

Foxfire & Freeways: Colorado, Chaos & A Quiet Pause

We made it into Colorado Springs on April 20th…

and almost immediately ran into another hiccup.

The camper slide-out decided it wasn’t going to cooperate again, which meant an unexpected overnight wait for someone to come take a look. Turns out one of the motors had gone bad, so that had to be replaced before we could move forward.

Not exactly how we pictured arriving—but that’s been a bit of the theme lately.

Once that was sorted, though, things slowed down in the best way. We spent a few days in Colorado Springs visiting friends, catching up, and taking a much-needed break from being constantly on the move.

After that, it was time to head to the grounds for the Barbarian Festival, April 24th through the 26th.

And honestly… it was worth it.

There’s something about being surrounded by that kind of energy, people, and atmosphere that reminds you why you do all of this in the first place.

But after the festival, things shifted.

Our little surprise—something we’ve been excited about—ended up bringing more attention than expected. Not all of it good.

There were some negative reactions, some stress that followed, and it was enough for us to take a step back for a bit. We went quiet. Disconnected from social media. Took some time to just focus on what’s in front of us.

Because not everything needs to be shared right away.

    Some things need space first.

We’re still here. Still moving. Still figuring things out as we go.

Just a little quieter for the moment.

More to come when the time is right.

Until the next mile, keep the fire lit and the road calling.

Roadside Notes — Raton, New Mexico

We made it to Raton this evening — a quiet, quaint little town that serves as a familiar stopping point between Colorado and New Mexico. After a long day on the road, it felt good to finally slow down and settle in for the night.

The plan from here is to arrive in Colorado Springs early in the morning. We’ll likely spend most of the day resting and recovering from the drive, with the possibility of exploring a few nearby spots if energy allows. After that, we’re looking forward to spending a couple of days with some dear friends before making our way to the festival grounds.

Despite the delays we ran into earlier this morning, the remainder of the trip went smoothly overall. The only real challenge was the occasional strong winds along the way, a reminder that even the calmer stretches of travel can still keep you on your toes.

For now, exhaustion is catching up, and rest is calling. I’ll share more from the road tomorrow.

Until the next mile, keep the fire lit and the road calling.

Whew… today started off rough šŸ˜…

A couple bad starts this morning—first Starbucks got our order wrong (even after repeating it like 10 times and typing it out), then breakfast did the same thing.

Should’ve taken that as a sign the day had plans of its own.

Sure enough… we ran into some issues with the camper slide-out before hitting the road.

Had to call in backup—my parents and brother came through and helped get everything sorted out.

    And just like that…

we’re finally on the road to Colorado.

A little behind schedule, a little chaotic—but moving forward all the same.

Foxfire & Freeways: BBQ & Full Bellies

Another good day today—nothing too wild, just good food and good company.

We spent the day at my parents’ place for a proper southern BBQ, and let me tell you… we did not go hungry.

Chicken, Texas Twinkies, hot links, bratwursts, ham tips, corn on the cob… plus homemade tater salad and baked beans with bacon.

Safe to say we were all very full.

At some point my brother showed up with drinks that looked innocent enough… but were basically a 42oz cherry slushee with a shot of tequila šŸ˜…

    Good? Yes.
    Way too sweet? Also yes.

Now we’re back, completely wiped out.

I’d love to sleep in tomorrow… but let’s be real—lil man has other plans and runs this schedule now.

We’ll be heading back out Sunday, so I’ll check back in then with another update for my fine readers…

    All two of you šŸ˜‚

But honestly… even if it’s just two, I’m glad you’re here for the ride.

Foxfire & Freeways: Sunshine & Slow Days

Today was one of those days I didn’t realize I needed.

We spent most of it outside, just sitting on a blanket, soaking up the warm sunshine and enjoying a cool breeze. No rushing. No driving. No packing. Just… sitting still for once.

And honestly? I don’t get that very often.

Lil man hung out with me most of the day, taking in everything around him—and at one point, apparently deciding he needed to personally inspect the camera up close.

We may have gotten a little sunburnt in the process… but that’s just part of having fair skin and red hair 🤣

Later on, we headed over to my parents’ place for the usual reset—laundry, showers, and a good home-cooked dinner.

The kind of simple things that feel a little extra special after being on the road for so long.

Now lil man is down for the night, and we’re getting ready for a busy day tomorrow with a BBQ at my parents.

It’s funny how something as simple as sitting outside all day can feel like exactly what you needed.

Just a slow day… before life picks back up again.

Foxfire & Freeways: A Pause in Texas

We made it back to my hometown in Texas and settled into an RV park not far from my parents.

After weeks of packing, driving, moving, and figuring things out as we go, today felt like a pause.

Not a full stop… just a moment to breathe.

We got the trailer unhitched, grabbed some dinner, and now we’re settling in for the night.

Lil man is currently in the middle of another bedtime battle—round two of the camper life routine—but even that feels different tonight.

Maybe it’s because we’re not rushing to the next destination right now.

Maybe it’s because we finally have a couple days to just be.

It’s been almost two weeks of constant movement.

New places, new routines, long drives, and learning as we go.

And somewhere in the middle of it all, this is starting to feel like our normal.

    Not perfect. Not always easy.

    But real.

We’ve got a BBQ planned with my parents on Friday, and then Sunday morning we’re back on the road—heading toward Colorado.

From there, it’s camping near friends, another RV site, and then straight into the Barbarian Festival.

    The road isn’t slowing down.

But for right now… it’s quiet.

    And that’s enough.

Foxfire & Freeways: Night One — Camper Chronicles

We officially made it to Texas and settled into the camper… and just like that, a new chapter kicked off.

Now, let me tell you—camper life sounds real peaceful until bedtime rolls around.

Lil man decided Night One was the perfect time to test our patience, endurance, and overall willpower. What followed was a solid two-hour bedtime battle. Rocking, pacing, quiet singing, repositioning… rinse and repeat.

At one point we thought we had him. False victory.

At another point, we tried keeping him awake earlier so he’d crash easier later… yeah, he had other plans.

Somewhere between ā€œhe’s definitely about to fall asleepā€ and ā€œhow is he still awake,ā€ we just accepted that this was part of the process.

    And honestly? It is.

New place, new routine, new everything. His little world just flipped upside down, so of course he’s gonna fight sleep like it’s his full-time job.

    But eventually… he gave in.

And just like that, the camper got quiet.

That kind of quiet that only comes after a long day, a long drive, and a long bedtime battle.

The kind where you just sit there for a second and think,
    ā€œAlright… we’re really doing this.ā€

    Camper life.

Traveling. Festivals. Road days. Late nights. Early mornings.

It’s not perfect, but it’s real—and we’re figuring it out one night at a time.

We’ll be staying in Wichita Falls for a few days before heading out toward Colorado for the Barbarian Festival, and if Night One taught us anything, it’s this:

There’s going to be a lot more stories like this.

And honestly? I wouldn’t have it any other way.

Foxfire and Freeways: Into the trenches with an army of Ladybugs

Made it safely to Texas a little while ago and have mostly just been settling into the camper.

    Biggest challenge right now?

Getting lil man to go to sleep.

Every night lately has turned into about a 2-hour battle.

He was fighting it about an hour before we reached our destination, but we tried to keep him awake thinking it would make bedtime easier…

    yeah, that backfired šŸ˜…

    Now he’s wide awake.

I know it’s all the changes—new places, new routine, constant movement—but we’re trying to get some kind of semi-predictable rhythm going.

    So I figured I’d ask—

anyone have tips for helping a baby adjust to sleep while traveling?

Because right now… we are in the trenches with an army of Ladybugs šŸ˜‚

    🧔

Daddy working on getting ā€˜Bug’ to sleep-it’s my nickname for him as my grandma always called me her lil ladybug and I had one land on me at the beginning of my pregnancy and then again last December and I always took it as a sign for her since her passing bc I woke up to a ladybug on my pillow
