Road Notes: Broken Parts, Unexpected Repairs & Back on the Road

🦊 Road Notes: Broken Parts, Unexpected Repairs & Back on the Road 🛞🎶

We’re back on the road again, folks! And after everything that’s happened, I’m feeling pretty grateful we decided to have the repair shop look over the camper before continuing our journey home.

Turns out, that decision was a VERY good one.

When the shop inspected everything, they found a few things that honestly left us shaking our heads.

First, our spare tire was six years old. Then they discovered our other tire was dangerously close to shredding apart, too.

But wait, there’s more!

The electric brakes on the camper weren’t connected.

THE ELECTRIC BRAKES.

We’ve owned this camper for an entire year, and now we finally understand why the truck’s trailer brake switch never seemed to work the way it should have. 😳

I don’t even want to think about what could have happened if we hadn’t stopped to get everything checked. Towing a camper is already a big responsibility, and finding out there were safety issues like these is unsettling, to say the least.

This experience has definitely left us questioning the inspection and preparation that went into the camper before it was sold to us.

Personally, based on our experience, I’d be hesitant to recommend buying a used camper from Camping World without having it independently inspected first. If you’re considering a used trailer, please have a qualified shop check it thoroughly before you hit the road. Tires, brakes, wiring, and all those things you might never think to look at can make a huge difference.

Thankfully, the repair shop got everything taken care of and sent us on our way pretty quickly. We really appreciated that, especially after the previous day’s roadside assistance fiasco.

We were finally moving again, but we weren’t about to rush the rest of the journey.

After the tire blowout and all the waiting around, we barely got any sleep. We ended up spending the night in the truck because the nearest hotel was about 20 minutes away, and our camper bed was buried under belongings. It would have taken quite a while to clear everything off and get settled, so we decided to boondock it instead.

Not exactly the most comfortable overnight stay, but sometimes you do what you have to do.

Today, we’re breaking up the drive as much as we can instead of pushing straight through. Getting home is important, but getting there safely and with enough energy to function is even more important.

Besides, what’s one more unexpected chapter at this point? 😂

We’ve had beautiful scenery, incredible festivals, unforgettable memories, toddler milestones, food adventures, and now a tire blowout followed by a surprise camper safety inspection.

And as the song says… broken parts are part of the story, too. 🎶🧡

We’re tired, we’re ready to be home, and we’re grateful to be back on the road with the camper checked over and the necessary repairs made.

One mile at a time. That’s how we’re getting there.

Until the next mile, keep the fire lit and the road calling. 🧡🦊
