Viking Fest Minnesota — Day One
Our first day at Viking Fest Minnesota is officially in the books, and what a day it was!
This was mine and Bug’s first time attending, though Chris is back for his second year playing here. We had a good turnout of people today, despite the wind trying its absolute best to send everything straight to Asgard! 🤣
I’m pretty sure I got my cardio in before the day was over. Between chasing a few CDs across the field and keeping up with a toddler who seems determined to unlock the next level of speed, I definitely got my steps in!
But Bug had a pretty great day himself. He managed to make two new friends close to his age again. Watching him interact with other little ones is becoming one of my favorite parts of this journey. At one point, I got to see him hugging one of his new friends, and my heart just about melted.
One of the values we want to instill in him as he grows is kindness. We want him to learn to treat others with compassion, to be gentle, and to make people feel welcome. Seeing little moments like that makes me hopeful that he’s already starting to understand what it means to be a kind human. 🧡
I also got to meet a Facebook friend I’ve known for five or six years! She used to live not too far from Farmington, so it was wonderful to finally meet in person after knowing each other online for so long. It’s one of those things I love about traveling and festival life: sometimes the internet friendships finally get their real-life moment.
But now, let’s talk about the absolute highlight of my day… THE FOXES! 🦊
I got to pet and hang out with a fox named Bear. I suspect Bjorn might be the inspiration for his name, but regardless, Bear was an absolute sweetheart. He was an older fellow who seemed perfectly happy to soak up all the attention and scritches he could get.
Then there was Pixie, another fox who was incredibly shy but just as sweet. She’s probably around a year old, and while she wasn’t quite as outgoing as Bear, getting to see her was still wonderful.
Honestly, getting to spend time with foxes was easily the highlight of my day. If you know me, you know how much I love these little creatures, so you can imagine how happy I was! 🧡
Now I’m tired, the merch has hopefully forgiven me for chasing it around the field, and we’re preparing for day two.
Tomorrow morning means getting up super early to hitch up the camper so we can bring it with us to the festival grounds. Once the day wraps up, we’ll head straight to our KOA campsite, where we’ll be staying for almost a week before returning to the hotel for the final festival weekend.
We might even squeeze in some sightseeing while we’re here, so stay tuned!
One day down, another Viking adventure ahead. And hopefully tomorrow, the wind will let our merchandise stay on Midgard where it belongs. 😂⚔️
Until the next mile, keep the fire lit and the road calling. 🧡
