Foxfire & Freeways: Colorado — Old Friends, Highland Games & Bug’s First Sword ⚔️🏔️🧡
We made it back to Colorado on Thursday, and after all the miles we’ve been putting behind us lately, we didn’t do much of anything that evening.
We got settled.
We relaxed.
And honestly?
It was nice.
Friday brought something a little different.
We had an event to attend that Bug wasn’t able to come to, but thankfully we have some pretty amazing friends who offered to watch him for a couple of hours while Chris and I went and did our thing.
And I’m not gonna lie…
It was kinda nice not having a baby in tow for a few hours. 😂🧡
I love that little boy more than anything, but getting to dress up, go out and just be us for a little while felt good.
The event was at The Lyric, which turned out to be a really cool place.
It had this funky vintage ’90s kind of vibe, artwork of all different styles around the place, and older cartoons playing—including Powerpuff Girls and Johnny Test.
Basically, there was always something weird or interesting to look at. 😂
We ran into some friends who were attending too, which made the night even better.
And they had kombucha on tap.
So naturally…
I took advantage of that. 🤣
We also tried their pizza, which was good, although personally it was a little too thin for my liking.
Still, it was a fun night surrounded by good people, and having those couple of hours together without worrying about chasing a toddler around was something we don’t get very often anymore.
Then Saturday came.
Saturday was much quieter.
We spent some time in the mountains for a memorial for a family member who passed away suddenly.
It was a somber day, and one of those reminders that life can change far faster than any of us expect.
So I’m going to leave Saturday where it belongs—with family, remembrance and the mountains. 🧡
Then Sunday brought us back into the sunshine for something we’d been looking forward to.
The Sedaila Highland Games! ⚔️
Two of our dearest friends—and Bug’s godparents—had invited us, so naturally I had to break out my tartan dress.
And Bug?
Bug got to wear his kilt. 🥹
But apparently wearing a kilt wasn’t enough for our tiny Highlander.
His uncle bought him his first sword.
Y’ALL. 😂
You should have seen how proud this child was.
He was so happy with that sword, trying to carry it around while waddling along in his little kilt like he had somewhere extremely important to be.
Watching him have a go at wielding it was one of the cutest things I’ve seen.
Bug has officially acquired his first sword.
This seems like a completely reasonable milestone for a one-year-old in this family. 🤣⚔️
And since we were already embracing the Highland spirit, I may have done a little shopping…
Okay.
Ordering. 😂
Bug is getting his first proper kilt.
I’m getting a tartan skirt because I have this beautiful green corset to wear with it.
And Chris is getting a traditional great kilt.
They probably won’t arrive until around Christmas, but honestly, that’s kind of perfect.
I’m already thinking our first Christmas picture wearing our family colors might have to happen. 🥹🧡
After the Highland Games, the rest of our time in Colorado has been pretty quiet.
And I think we needed that.
We’ve spent the week relaxing, spending time with people we care about and enjoying being in one place for a little while before the road calls again.
Because tomorrow morning…
We’re heading to Montana. 🛣️
We’re leaving early enough to get there a day ahead of schedule since the band doesn’t play until Saturday and Sunday.
The plan is to grab a campground first, tackle the ever-growing mountain of laundry, reorganize the camper a bit and generally get our lives back together before we can check into our hotel for the weekend.
Because nothing says glamorous touring life quite like:
“Quick! We have an extra day! WASH EVERYTHING!” 🤣
Then it’ll be another festival weekend.
Another couple of shows.
Another few miles closer to the end of this incredible, exhausting, chaotic adventure.
Colorado gave us a little bit of everything this time around—fun, friends, remembrance, mountains, Highland Games…
And one extremely proud little boy waddling around with his very first sword. ⚔️🧡
That one I’m going to remember for a long time.
Until the next mile, keep the fire lit and the road calling. 🔥🛣️
