Foxfire & Freeways: Hoover Dam, Circus Circus & the Mystery Green Jelly 🎪🦊
Vegas, round two!
Since we were already passing back through Las Vegas on our way toward Colorado, we stayed at the same KOA we used when we were headed toward the Grover Beach festival earlier in the tour.
Originally, we planned to leave for Colorado yesterday, but we decided to give ourselves another day instead.
Which meant…
Bonus adventure day! 😂
And this time, we finally went to see the Hoover Dam.
We didn’t actually drive across the dam. Instead, we walked along the walkway overlooking it from the highway.
And honestly?
That thing is impressive.
It’s one of those places where pictures don’t quite prepare you for actually standing there and seeing the sheer size of it in person.
After Hoover Dam, we decided to check out Circus Circus because a friend had told us it was worth seeing.
What we didn’t know was that the amusement park closes earlier than we expected.
Whoops. 😂
So we didn’t get to experience that part this time.
But that’s okay.
Apparently Las Vegas is slowly turning into one of those places where we keep saying:
“We’ll do that next time.”
And considering we’ve already ended up here twice on this tour…
There probably WILL be a next time. 🤣
We did, however, have dinner at a fancy steakhouse inside the casino.
And my lamb chops were ON POINT.
Lamb chops, mashed taters, grilled asparagus…
And then there was this little bowl of something green and shiny.
I stared at it.
It stared at me.
And my brain decided:
Lime Jell-O.
Which seemed like a very strange thing to serve alongside lamb chops, mashed potatoes and asparagus, but hey…
Maybe fancy restaurants know something I don’t. 😂
I wasn’t brave enough to taste it immediately, so naturally I did what any responsible mother would do.
I offered some to Bug. 🤣
His face said:
“Mother. What have you done?”
He looked like I’d just betrayed him.
So obviously now I had to figure out what this mysterious green substance actually was.
I tasted it.
Y’all.
IT WAS MINT JELLY.
Apparently you’re supposed to eat it with the lamb chops!
I sat there trying to process this information because I had absolutely no idea mint jelly and lamb was even a thing.
And no.
I did not put it on my lamb chops. 😂
Maybe someday I’ll be brave enough.
But apparently this was my first official case of Fancy Restaurant Confusion.
Thankfully, the lamb chops were delicious all by themselves.
Sorry, mint jelly.
Maybe next time.
After our extra day of Vegas adventures, we finally hitched everything back up and pointed the camper toward Colorado. 🛣️
We’ll make it to Grand Junction this evening and stay there for the night.
Then tomorrow, we’ve only got another couple of hours on the road before reaching our next destination, where we’ll actually get to stay put for almost an entire week.
An entire week without constantly moving the camper?!
Luxury. 😂
After that, though, it’s time to point north again.
Montana is waiting.
And with every stop now, we’re getting just a little bit closer to the end of this tour and eventually…
home. 🧡
But apparently there are still plenty of adventures—and questionable green substances—to experience before we get there.
🦊🧡
Until the next mile, keep the fire lit and the road calling. 🔥🛣️
